VINSSEN Secures Contract to Build Eco-Friendly Maintenance Boat
and Charging Infrastructure for Hweaya Dam
VINSSEN Co., Ltd., a leading company in eco-friendly vessel technology, announced that it has signed a final contract on March 20 with the City of Ulsan to build a new maintenance boat and install related charging infrastructure for Hweaya Dam.
This project aims to reinforce the eco-friendly image of Hweaya Dam, a key water source for the city, through the application of battery-electric propulsion systems and aluminum hull construction. The current maintenance boat, introduced in 2006 and powered by gasoline, has faced increasing concerns over aging and the potential risk of water contamination in the event of an accident.
In response, Ulsan City has selected VINSSEN, recognized for its green vessel manufacturing capabilities, to complete the construction of the new electric maintenance boat and the associated high-efficiency charging infrastructure by November 2025.
The vessel to be built will
measure approximately 10 meters in length, 3.0 meters in beam, and 0.6 meters
in full load draft, with a gross tonnage of under 5 tons. It will have a
maximum capacity of 12 passengers and operate primarily between the Hweaya Dam
dock and the upper wetlands of the Hweaya River.
Equipped with two lithium-ion
batteries, the electric propulsion system is designed to enable continuous
operation for over five hours at average speed, taking into account local dam
conditions. A 50kW high-efficiency charger will also be installed as part of
the project.
VINSSEN has already proven its
technical expertise in eco-friendly marine mobility through various
demonstration projects. These include the successful delivery of Korea’s first
fully electric passenger vessel “Garden Dream” for the 2023 Suncheonman International
Garden Expo, the sightseeing boat “Kim Si-min 2” in Jinju, and the development
of hydrogen fuel cell leisure boats. At the recently concluded 2025 Seoul
Mobility Show, the company also unveiled its new leisure electric boat, EPOCH
II, reaffirming its leadership in green marine innovation.
A VINSSEN representative stated,
“This project is a recognition of our ongoing investment and technical
capability in electric and hydrogen-powered vessels, as well as future-oriented
green mobility systems. We will ensure that the new maintenance boat reflects
the environmental significance of Hweaya Dam while prioritizing safety and
sustainability.” They added, “We will carry out this project with a strong
sense of responsibility so that the vessel not only enhances disaster response
capabilities within the dam area but also serves as a reliable model for
eco-friendly public vessels.”
